Manifesto

In this blog I will document by progress and thoughts - good bad and indiferent - on my journey to draw one thousand figures.

I started drawing and painting on and off a few years ago. Copying a photograph really. Although this is fun, and I was able to create some impessive results, I realized that I want to be able to break free from the photograph.

I am very interested in portraiture and the female form. Both are difficult subject matters and the only way to be good at it is to practice. Or so I am told.

Drawing a thousand figures should be a good start.

So I am recording my journey and my thoughts through the process, raw.

The drawings are from memory/imagination but I also use a photograph as an initial reference, i.e. I will gaze at the photograph for a while and then draw from memory and improvise. I live in a small town and there are no opportunities for nude life drawing sessions.
